The Boudin King Cake is a savory version of the widely popular King Cake
Boudin is a spicy Cajun delicacy, known all over Southern Louisiana, consisting of pork or alligator meat, onions, peppers, seasonings, and rice.
At Oakmont bakery, we have modified our Boudin a bit and use spicy sausage, peppers, onions, mashed potatoes, and our Cajun seasonings. We roll it into our popular, yeast bread dough, sprinkle it with bacon, bake it, and serve it up decorated grand Mardi-gras style in our King Cake box. A presentation fit for a king!
The tradition involves hiding the baby inside the King Cake. As a King Cake is cut, each person awaits anxiously for his or her piece to locate the small baby. The person who finds the baby becomes Crowned King or Queen and is obligated to bring an Oakmont Bakery King Cake to the next celebration!
